Wednesday, January 20, 2010 21:13 - Norristown Firefighters, Police and Paramedics responded to a business in the 900 Blk of West Main Street after an employee was admitted to the hospital for Carbon Monoxide Poisoning. Firefighters found high levels of CO in the building, and evacuated all the occupants. PECO responded and found the chimney was blocked.
Carbon monoxide (CO) is an invisible, odorless, colorless gas created when fossil fuels (such as gasoline, wood, coal, propane, oil and methane) burn incompletely. In the home, heating and cooking equipment are possible sources of carbon monoxide when not vented properly. Vehicles running in an attached garage could also produce dangerous levels of carbon monoxide. Because one cannot smell, see, or taste it, carbon monoxide can kill you before you know it is there. It is important to install a working CO detector in your home and office.
