FOCUS ON A FIREFIGHTER |

Erik DeLapp
Erik is a firefighter with the Montgomery. He was the first person to
join the department after contacting us from the website; and is now
State Certified. He was born in Fairfield, Ca. He likes Pizza and the
movie Super Troopers. His first major fire was the Town & Country fire.

Only hours after a fire on Dekalb Street, Norristown
Firefighters responded to a shed fire on the property of Korkus
Landscaping. The shed was completely destroyed; however the main
building was spared any damage.

Norristown, Plymouth and Center Square Firefighters work to
contain an afternoon fire at 416 Dekalb St. The fire broke out around
lunchtime in the attic of a Downtown Norristown Business. No one was
injured. Damage was believed to be moderate.

Norristown Firefighters and Rescue 27 responded to Germantown
Pike and Swede Road in East Norriton Township to assist East Norriton
Fire Company with an afternoon rush hour rescue.

| BASEMENT SEMINAR |

Over 50 Norristown Fire Fighters attended a seminar on basement
fires given by Retired Battalion Chief Robert Drennan. Chief Drennan
customed the class from his experience with the Philadelphia Fire
Department. Basement fires have been responsible for claiming the lives
of numerous fire fighters across the country; and more recently the
injuries incurred by 3 Norristown Fire Fighters durning a fire on Norris St.

| UNUSUAL ACCIDENT IN HOSPITAL PARKING GARAGE |

Norristown Fire Fighters responded to a vehicle leaking fuel at Montgomery Hospital's Parking Garage and found an accident that required rescue to stabilize the vehicles. The driver involved in the accident had only minor injuries. |

| KITCHEN FIRE ON NOBLE STREET |

At 4:00pm, Norristown Fire Fighters responded to a reported
kitchen fire at 800 Noble St. Fire Fighters found fire coming from the
kitchen window of the two story twin home. The fire was quickly
extinguished and no one was injured. The home suffered extensive smoke
and heat damage. Swedeland Fire Company assisted Norristown at the
scene.

| AIRY STREET DWELLING |

While assembled for a critique on the Norris Street fire,
Norristown Firefighters were dispatched to 136 W. Airy Street for a
house fire. The address was only a half a block from the Norris Street
fire. Firefighters found heavy fire from the second floor of the home.
With approximately 30 firefighters on the scene within minutes, the fire
was under control in about 10 minutes. Swedeland and Bridgeport Fire
Companies also assist Norristown at the scene.

| KITCHEN FIRE ON STANBRIDGE STREET |

At 6:45pm, the Norristown Fire Department was dispatched to a
house fire at 105 Stanbridge St. Firefighters found the kitchen fully
involved in fire, and heavy smoke throughout the building. Firefighters
worked for about 30 mins to bring the fire under control. Swedeland and
East Norriton Fire Companies assisted Norristown at the scene.

| QUICK KNOCK ON APARTMENT FIRE |

Norristown Firefighters made a quick knock down of an apartment fire on the third floor of 502 Swede St. The fire in "Lawyers' Row" and in the shadows of the Montgomery County Court House, attracted many spectators and created a hugh traffic jam. No one was injured in the fire. Plymouth and Center Square Fire Companies assisted at the scene.

Norristown and Bridgeport Firefighters welcome a fellow Firefighter home from Iraq. U. S. Army Specialist Stephen Licwinko, from the 101st. Airborne Division, was home, at his mom's home on West Marshall St, for a few weeks to witness the birth of his daughter. Specialist Licwinko was a volunteer firefighter in Bridgeport and Virginia before being deployed to Iraq. The Norristown Fire Department Salutes and Thanks all our Soldiers for their Dedication and Service to our Country.

| 2ND ALARM ON NORRIS STREET |

At 9:30pm the Norristown Fire Department was dispatched to a dwelling fire at 507 Norris St. County Radio was receiving numerous calls and when firefighters arrived, heavy smoke and flames were visible. An interior attack was attempted, but with fire below them in the basement and above them on the 1st and 2nd floors, firefighters had to retreat. During that attempt, three firefighters suffered burns. On firefighter was transported to Temple's Burn Center. As additional crews responded, even coming from another major fire in Plymouth Township, firefighters aggressively worked to save the block. Homes on both sides of the initial fire building did receive some damage, however many homes were saved. Numerous Fire Companies and EMS Units from Montgomery County assisted at the scene.

| BURST SPRINKLER PIPE CAUSES EVACUATIONS |

At 1030am, the Norristown Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Sandy Hill Terrace; an 8-story residential building. Firefighters discovered a 2" sprinkler pipe broke on the 8th floor, causing water to cascade onto every floor and into 90% of the apartments in the north wing. Firefighters, EMS, Red Cross, Code Enforcement and Apartment staff assisted in evacuating numerous occupants and securing power in the apartments. Many of the occupants were handicapped or did not speak english. Firefighters were on scene for over 6 hours.

| JUST WHEN YOU HAVE SEEN IT ALL... |

Norristown Firefighters were dispatched to the area along the railroad tracks at the end of the 800 Blk of George St about 5pm for a woods fire. What firefighters found was a fire in a cave that was dug about 12 feet into the ground. Firefighters were concerned for a collapse, however, once a mattress was pulled out with a 10ft hook, firefighters needed to enter to check for any victims. No one was found, and no one was injured. It appeared that someone had been living in the cave for some time.
