The Norristown Fire Department enjoyed a successful convention in Lake Harmony this year from hosting a Hospitality Room to the Fairmount Ladies winning First Place in the convention parade. On Thursday and Friday nights, Norristown welcomed a couple hundred people at its Hospitality Room in anticipation of Hosting the 2012 Convention. From the Queen of the Parade to the Latrobe Pipe and Drum Band to the Firehouse Dolls, all enjoyed Zeps, Corropolese Tomatoe Pie, Soft Pretzels and more. On Saturday, Norristown participated in the Convention Parade. The Ladies from the Fairmount won First Place in their catagory, while the Rescue won Second Place in the State. The parade also featured Norristown's Finest (NPD), Councilwomen Cathy Lawrence and Councilman Bill Caldwell and an Engine from the Hancock. Another highlight of the convention was the installation of Norristown's Lillian Gambone as President of the State Ladies Aux. and the installation of Walt Booz into the Gooseneckers. Friday, September 16, 2011 It was a busy Friday Night for the police and fire departments in Norristown. Firefighters were called to the 00 hundred block of E. Oak Street for a buidling fire. An electrical cable attached to the home had shorted out. Firefighters could not control the fire until PECO arrived. While standing by at the Oak Street call, Norristown Firefighters were called to standby at the Norristown State Hospital while a medical helicopter landed for a shooting victim. Following that call, Norristown, Jeffersonville, and Swedesburg Firefighters were called to the river for a wanted subject, who was running from the police, who jumped into the river and disappeared. Marine crews searched the river but could not find the victim.
In remembering the victims of September 11, 2001, Students and Staff from Stewart Middle School in Norristown held hands with Police, Firefighters and Military Members of the Community for a Moment of Silence.
On July 5, 2011, Norristown Municipal Council adopted Municipal Ordinance 11-08 of 2011 amending section 308.1.4 of the 2009 International Fire Code prohibiting operation of all charcoal burners and other open-flame cooking devices on combustible porches, decks, balconies or within 10 feet of your home or business. In the interest of Life Safety, please refrain from using your cooking devices on, under or near combustible areas and move it to a safe distance. Thank you. Norristown Firefighters were called to Sam's Restaurant Equipment for a fire on the first floor. Crews quickly extinguished the fire, but smoke filled the entire business. Firefighters from East Norriton, Whitpain and Plymouth assisted Norristown in extinguishing the fire and ventilating the building.
Members of the Southeastern Montgomery County Technical Rescue Task Force, which is a collaborative effort of; The Lower Merion Fire Companies, The Upper Merion Fire Companies, and the Norristown Fire Department, turn out for their first "Hands-on Drill". Approx. 40 members attended the drill at the Norristown State Hospital, where drills on the basics of Rigging & Anchoring Systems were practiced.

Orders for the 2012 Pa State Firemen's Convention T-Shirts, hosted by the Norristown Fire Department, are now being taken. The first orders will be placed on June 15, 2011 with delivery by July 4, 2011. Order forms are in the fire stations. The AMERICAN MADE T-Shirts are $15 up to size XL. Larger sizes are $18.

Wednesday, April 13, 2011 Norristown Fire Department's Ladder assisted Bridgeport at a house fire in the 300 Blk. of Prospect Ave. Crews worked to open up the roof and check for vertical fire spread. Norristown's Chief O'Donnell assisted with command.
